National Vice Chairman of the governing New Patriot Party (NPP), Michael Owari Wadie, has alleged that the National Democratic Congress in 2016 – when they were in power- issued a diplomatic passport to the embattled Chief Executive Officer of Menzgold Ghana Limited, Nana Appiah Mensah (NAM 1).
During a panel discussion on Happy FM’s ‘Epa Hoa Daben’ show, Chairman Wadie said, “The NDC in power in 2016 issued a diplomatic passport to this NAM 1 guy, because he was one of Mahama’s cronies. He was moving in and out the country without any check by the airport authorities.”
However, Deputy General Secretary of the NDC, Peter Boamah Otokunor, also alleged that, the President of the Republic, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo was on the verge of appointing the embattled Chief Executive Officer of Menzgold Ghana Limited Nana Appiah Mensah as Minister Responsible for Business Development.
On Wednesday January 9, 2019 an Accra High court issued a warrant for Mr. Mensah’s arrest for allegedly “defrauding by false pretence” while operating his gold firm. His wife and sister are also on the wanted list of 194 countries. Reports however emerged in Ghana on Sunday that Nana Appiah Mensah, popularly known as NAM 1, had been arrested in Dubai.
But in an interview with Happy FM’s reporter , Joseph Nii Ankrah, the Ghana Consulate in Dubai denied knowledge of the alleged arrest of NAM 1.
“We don’t have any information of any Ghanaian being arrested here in Dubai with the Name Nana Appiah Mensah.”
However, a special delegation of security operatives on Monday left Accra for Dubai in connection with the arrest of NAM1 in Dubai.
Meanwhile, the Ghana Police Service has confirmed the arrest of Nana Mensah in Dubai and has assured the public that due process will be followed.
A statement signed by the Director-General of the Public Affairs Directorate, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Mr. David Eklu, and issued in Accra yesterday said NAM 1 was arrested about five weeks ago by the Dubai Police.
