The Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, has accused NDC flagbearer John Dramani Mahama of sidelining key figures within his party.

According to Chairman Wontumi, Mahama has intentionally diminished the influence of certain personalities within the NDC to consolidate his power without opposition.

He specifically mentioned the three Ahwoi brothers, who were once very influential in the party, stating that they have been rendered politically irrelevant since Mahama became the flagbearer.

Chairman Wontumi also noted that several individuals with presidential ambitions have had their influence curtailed.

“He has sidelined many prominent personalities in the NDC who could contest for the presidency. Today, even the Ahwoi brothers, politically, Mahama has made them useless.

"We all know the prominence and prestige that the three Ahwoi brothers have in Ghana, but today, where are they? John Mahama’s quest to return to power is questionable,” he said in Twi while speaking on Wontumi TV on August 5, 2024.

About the Ahwoi brothers:

Prof. Kwamena Ahwoi was one of the first Ahwoi brothers invited by Chairman Rawlings to join the PNDC in the early 1980s.

Ato Ahwoi used his connections with the regime to establish a business empire, CASHPRO, which raked in millions of cedis and secured at least 26 credit facilities from the Agricultural Development Bank between 1993 and 2000.

Kwesi Ahwoi served as the Minister of Food and Agriculture in 2009 during the tenure of the late President Prof. Evans Atta Mills.
