Mahama has now become an Agenda 111 ambassador after saying it was impossible - Info minister jabs

Minister for Information, Fatimatu Abubakar Minister for Information, Fatimatu Abubakar

The Minister for Information, Fatimatu Abubakar, has taken a swipe at former President John Dramani Mahama over his promise to continue the Agenda 111 project started by the Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo government.

Speaking in an interview on Angel FM on August 14, 2024, the minister indicated that the former president, who is the flagbearer of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), was being hypocritical with his promise to complete the Agenda 111 project.

She said that Mahama himself had said the project, which is to construct 111 health facilities across the country, was impossible but today, he is saying he would complete them.

“You untie an animal at the same place you tied it. And also, it is not easy to catch up with someone who has gone ahead of you. Why has the Agenda 111 project become topical again this week?

“It is because former President Mahama said we should give him another chance on the seat of government, for him to complete the Agenda 111 project,” the minister said in Twi.

She added, “How can someone who said Agenda 111 is not realistic all of a sudden say that he would complete them? How many of them have you seen for you to become an Agenda 111 ambassador? Who should impregnate his wife for you to come and ‘water’?”

What Mahama said:

The former president described Agenda 111 as an overly ambitious project whose feasibility cannot be guaranteed.

The former president expressed his scepticism over the feasibility of the government’s Agenda 111 project during a discussion with some clergy members in Accra, peacefmonline.com reports.

He emphasised that the government’s plan appears unrealistic and unlikely to be completed within a reasonable timeframe.

According to Mahama, while the government initiated the Agenda 111 project, which includes the construction of 80 hospitals, the strategy lacks practicality, adding that its accomplishment is a mirage.

He therefore suggested that a more rational approach would have been to start with a smaller number, such as 40, ensuring their completion before embarking on additional projects.

He said, “This government started their Agenda 111 as they call it and they started with 80 hospitals. I don’t know what survey was done before the hospitals were being put in, but most of them are at a certain stage of completion. One would have thought that they would start with what they can do and finish.

“And so if you can do 40 hospitals, finish and open them, then you start another. But you spread to 80 hospitals, by the time they leave office, I don’t think many of them would have been completed.”
