Vice President and Flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has hit back at former President John Dramani Mahama over his refusal to avail himself for a one-on-one debate before the Ghanaian people.

During the height of the US Presidential debate between Vice President Kamala Harris and former US President Donald Trump, many called for a similar debate in Ghana between Bawumia and Mahama.

Vice President Bawumia himself challenged Mahama to a debate, but the former President has remained coy about it. A few days ago, former President Mahama stated that he wouldn't debate the Vice President because he "knows his level."

Dr. Bawumia has now hit back, taunting the former President that he is afraid of his record and running away from the debate like "small small chickens," a phrase associated with a promise by Mahama to promote the rearing of chickens.

"Mahama is saying that during his time, he did better than us, and I told him that if he really believes he has superior records, he should come for us to have a debate, a mano a mano, man to man. He should come for a debate; he should not be afraid," Dr. Bawumia told a large crowd at Nkawkaw on Saturday.

"But he is really afraid. He is afraid, so he is running away like nkoko nketenketen."

The phrase emanates from Mahama's promise to promote the rearing of chickens among the youth by giving them a small number of chicks, which translates to "nkoko nketenketen."
