Mahama is running away from debating me; he fears I'll expose the emptiness of his policies – Bawumia

Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the presidential candidate of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), has claimed that his main opponent, John Dramani Mahama of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), is avoiding a debate with him out of fear of being exposed.

Bawumia criticised Mahama's 24-hour policy initiative, describing it as hollow and ineffective.

Speaking to party supporters in Nalerigu on Wednesday, July 10, Bawumia stated that NDC communicators are struggling to explain the 24-hour policy to Ghanaians.

"I am looking forward to a debate with John Mahama on the economy and governance, but he is running away from a debate. His people say he doesn't want to debate because he knows that I will expose the emptiness of his policies," Bawumia said.

"He claims to have a 24-hour economy policy that he cannot explain. It is as empty as an empty barrel. None of his people can explain it, and they even say they will be exporting lions and elephants."

Bawumia added, "When we meet man-to-man, we can debate, and the country will see where our policies lie. That is where we should go, giving the country an opportunity to listen to us. But if he chooses not to debate, I will continue to sell my policies to the people of Ghana, and you will make the decision."

The 2024 general election promises to be a keen contest between the NPP and the NDC as President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo completes his second term.

Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the NPP's flagbearer, has selected former energy minister and Member of Parliament for Manhyia South, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, as his running mate.

The duo will be up against former President John Dramani Mahama and former Minister for Education, Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, on the NDC front.

Dr. Bawumia, on various occasions, has thrown an open challenge to Mr Mahama for a public debate ahead of the elections.

Meanwhile, Joyce Bawa Mogtari, spokesperson for Mr Mahama's campaign, has stated her disapproval of the NDC candidate debating Dr Bawumia.
