Mahama leaves for Nigeria

President John Mahama has left Accra, Friday, for Nigeria on an official assignment, the Speaker of Parliament Doe Adjaho announced to the chamber a while ago.

It is not clear what has necessitated the president’s impromptu visit to the West African country. Mahama is already scheduled to travel to the Vatican on Sunday.

Starr News' Parliamentary correspondent, Kobby Mensah Gomez reports that journalists in the House are anxious to see if the Speaker will be sworn in as acting president or not.

Adjaho, three days ago, refused to be sworn in while the President was away in Burkina Faso, with the explanation that the Presidential oath he took sometime in September last year, was still active.

President Mahama has in the past few weeks visited Denmark, UK, Norway and crisis-ridden Burkina Faso, sparkling a row among some public officials who have described the First Gentleman of the country as a “globe-trotter”.
