The Ashanti Regional Chairman of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as 'Chairman Wontumi,' has asked former President John Dramani Mahama to accept the 'debate challenge' so that he can have the opportunity to expose the so-called lies of Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.
According to Chairman Wontumi, the debate will provide a perfect platform for the former President to adequately substantiate the claims by him and his party that the Vice President and the NPP Presidential Candidate is a liar.
“I think Mr. Mahama has a very fine opportunity to sink Dr. Bawumia once and for all, and I will encourage him to accept the challenge without hesitation,” Chairman Wontumi asserted.
The NPP Regional Chairman says he is ready to quit the ruling party and join the opposition NDC if former President Mahama accepts the debate challenge and succeeds in exposing Vice President Bawumia as a liar, as they have always professed.
“I am ready to join Mr. Mahama and the NDC if they are able to engage Dr. Bawumia and expose him as a liar; I am daring the former President to take up the challenge,” Chairman Wontumi threatened.
There have been loud calls for the NDC flagbearer to accede to the challenge thrown at him by the Vice President to engage in a one-on-one debate on the economy.
Though the opposition party has declined the challenge, describing it as a bait, many observers hold the view that it will be a good platform to assess the two leading candidates going into the crucial elections on December 7, 2024.
