Kweku Baako Jnr. has said President John Mahama must redeploy the Accra Mayor or sack him entirely.
The New Crusading Guide Editor-in-Chief said on Saturday that Oko Vanderpuije’s poor handling of a recent demolition exercise at a slum behind the Arts Centre in Accra justifies his dismissal.
Scores of families, including children, were forced to sleep in the open after the Mayor and his taskforce pulled down their shanty structures at Mensah Guinea.
He said the poor sanitation in the area was largely to blame for the festering cholera situation in the capital, which has killed close to a hundred people and affected about 12,000 residents.
The Mayor recently caused the arrest of some journalists from the Multimedia group for filming visuals of the displaced squatters.
Vanderpuije explained his action away by claiming the journalists were cooking up stories to disgrace the government as far as the demolition exercise was concerned.
Describing the Mayor’s explanation as a fabrication, Kweku Baako told Joy FM’s weekend news analysis programme, Newsfile, that Vanderpuije must retract his claim. He said the President will be doing himself a favour if he threw him out of his administration.
