President John Dramani Mahama has lined up a series of visits to Ghanaian companies which produce Made-in-Ghana goods and products.
President Mahama began the tour on Friday, September 5 when he visited Dignity DTRT Limited, manufacturers of apparels for export to the United States of America (USA).
He is expected to visit a bamboo factory in Assin Fosu in the Central Region on Saturday, September 6. President Mahama first made the call for patronage of ‘Made in Ghana’ goods on Thursday, March 6, 2014, when he delivered the 57th Independence Anniversary address.
“There is no reason why a significant number of the items that we import to use on a daily basis cannot be made right here in Ghana. Just as we purchase products that are proudly Italian, proudly Chinese, proudly Turkish, or proudly South African, there is no reason we cannot manufacture goods that are proudly Ghanaian."
He, therefore, declared everyday ‘Made in Ghana’ day.
So, in furtherance of these ideas and policies by presidents past whose motivation it was to move our nation forward, I am calling for every day to be a “Made in Ghana” Day.
President Mahama on Friday promised that in line with his structural transformation of the economy agenda, government will support the garments and textile industry, which has a potential, according to him, to employ thousands of Ghanaians.
