Former President and flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, has pledged to address the accommodation challenges faced by rural teachers.

Speaking during a live Facebook broadcast over the weekend, Mr. Mahama promised that if elected president in the December 2024 elections, new school designs for basic and secondary levels will include teacher accommodations.

“I have decided that in designing new schools for the basic and secondary levels, accommodation will be incorporated so that when teachers are posted to a school, they don’t have to live in an adjoining town and struggle with transportation,” Mahama stated.

Additionally, he announced that teachers who agree to serve in rural schools will receive a 20 percent salary incentive.

He believes this measure will encourage more teachers to accept positions in rural areas.
