Former Rector of the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA), Prof Stephen Adei has argued that the construction of the E-block community day Senior High Schools in rural communities by the Mahama led government is a wasteful enterprise.

According to him, such infrastructures are most efficient when sited in urban communities.

Speaking at the 1st Convocation Lecture series organized by the Takoradi Technical University on the theme “Enhancing the development of Ghana through technical and vocational education training: the role of technical universities”, Prof Adei emphasized that the E-Blocks schools in rural communities are being underutilized given the number of students that are churned out of the junior high schools in the area.

He buttressed that proximity to the schools from the communities is a major disincentive as boarding, teachers’ bungalow and other crucial facilities were not factored in the development to whip up teachers and students morale.

Professor Adei further said the Free SHS policy is commendable but added that some investments be made in improving infrastructure at the tertiary level to accommodate the growing number of entrants into the tertiary institutions.
