Founder and President of Concerned Voters Movement (CVM), Razak Kojo Opoku has alleged that former President John Mahama staged a coup d'etat against the Ewes and Fantis people who contested for key positions in the party's national executive elections.

His comment comes after a defeated National Organiser aspirant, Anita Desoso, a Voltarian, said at the National Delegates Congress over the weekend that the defeat of many Voltarian candidates who were aspiring to frontline positions, meant that Ewes had been sidelined from the game.

Mr Samuel Ofosu Ampofo, an Akan, is now the newly-elected Chairman of the NDC after beating Dan Abodakpi, a Voltarian, and three other aspirants at the Congress.

For the two-man General Secretary race, Johnson Asiedu Nketia, an Akan beat his former Deputy Koku Anyidoho, a Voltarian. Sammy Gyamfi also an Akan, beat Fred Agbenyo, a Voltarian to become the new National Communication Officer.

The Volta Region is seen as the electoral ‘World Bank’ of the NDC.

Speaking to the media, the CVM boss alleged that "in order for John Mahama to entrench his authority in the NDC he has successfully removed all Ewes and Fantis from the National Leadership of the NDC at the Party's 9th National Delegates Congress".

He added, "John Mahama staged a coup d'etat against the Ewes such as Dan Abodakpi, Koku Anyidoho, Fred Agbenyo, Anita Desoso, George Lawson and other Ewes/Fantis at the Party's Delegates Congress".

"To the victory of John Mahama, all the Ewes and Fantis have been successfully removed from the top leadership of NDC ahead of the 2020 General Elections", he jabbed.

Kojo Opoku opined that the party has strategically silenced former President Jerry John Rawlings who is the founder of the party hence doesn't have any influence in the party.

"Now, the Founder of NDC, JJ Rawlings who is an Ewe has also been strategically silenced in the Party with absolutely zero influence on the delegates of NDC", he emphasized.

He said "Two prominent Fantis such as Prof. Mills and Amissah-Arthur who John Mahama worked with as Vice-President and President respectively also mysteriously died in the course of their respective duties to the State and the NDC Party".

He revealed that per their group's intelligence, former President John Mahama would pick a running mate either from Ashanti Region or Greater Accra Region hence sidelined all the Ewes and Fantis in the party.

"According to our intelligence, for the first time since 1992, a Vice-Presidential Candidate of NDC ahead of the 2020 General Elections will come from either Ashanti Region or Greater Accra Region to completely sideline all the Ewes and Fantis from the NDC", he revealed.

CVM boss said "interesting times ahead for the NDC in the 2020 General Elections especially their stronghold Volta Region".
