Former President John Dramani Mahama has come under heavy attack by Zimbabweans on micro-blogging site, Twitter for referring to their ex-leader, Robert Mugabe as a ‘hero’.
John Mahama who is one of the many world leaders to react to the news of the unexpected resignation of Mugabe that brought an end to his 37-year-old rule as president of Zimbabwe took to Twitter to heap praises on the former revolutionary leader.
The former President of Ghana, who despite wishing the ‘freed’ country a turnaround for democracy and prosperity did not seem happy about the sudden turn of events referred to the situation as a “sad ending for a liberation hero.”
His tweet however, did not seem to have gone down well with Zimbabweans who have expressed displeasure and anger towards the Former president of Ghana. He tweeted;
A sad ending for a liberation hero, a patriot and a great Pan Africanist. I pray the dramatic events of November serve as a reboot for democracy and prosperity in #Zim. History will remember Comrade Mugabe kindly. pic.twitter.com/CZPKCOpccZ

Confusing tweet. How can you say 'a patriot and a great Pan Africanist' and then go on to ask for ' a reboot for democracy and prosperity in #Zim' ?

With all due respect Sir,us Zimbabweans will also remember him for his tyranny & the suffering we endured. May history never be air brushed.

Dude has US$18 billion secreted away whilst school teachers earning $474/month have to wait to get paid. How is that Pan Africanism?

Emotions aside, Robert Mugabe WAS a pan africanist. He truly believed we must never be vassals of europe ever again, be it economically, socially, politically or morally. Sadly, the $$$$ and power messed him up. Regardless - good riddance

haaaa Not for Zimbabweans. We experienced dark poverty wth this dude. Asante sana!! Good riddance

I don't think you actually believe that he was a great pan African, what an insult to Nelson Mandela, Kwame Nkurama, Leopard Sidat Senghore, Kenneth Kaunda etc.. these people understand how important it was for Africa to move from liberation to liberalisation and ensures it.....

You Mr Mahama have no idea what you are on about. It is generally not considered wise to display that much ignorance on public forums such as this. There was nothing sad about the ending, we are all happy that it ended. RG was a demagogue and despot and none of what you claim

I disagree. History will judge him harshly for his genocide, human rights abuses, authoritarian rule, and extreme incompetence.

Nonsense Mugabe was a Pan-Africanist of words only on international podiums that man was a tyrant.

First listen to what us , Zimbabweans who were stuck with him have to say . An economic plunderer who brought suffering to his people-His legacy

Ghana is a stable democracy with a growing economy yet so many of her people are waxing lyrical about a ruthless dictator who trashed his country's economy. Go figure.
