Accra, Feb. 13, GNA - Vice-President John Dramani Mahama on Friday urged market women to help government promote the retail of locally manufactured products to bring about long-term stability in the economy. He told a delegation of the Greater Accra Regional Market Association who called on him at the Castle to be at the forefront in efforts aimed at promoting Ghanaian made products so as to generate sufficient resources for the development of the country.
Vice-President Mahama said the promotion of Ghanaian made goods would be a helpful step in developing an economy that is resilient and able to withstand the unpredictability of the international market positively. He said because women are involved in decision-making at the grassroots, it is important that their views were taken into account in any development policies being fashioned at that level. Madam Mercy Needjan, leader of the delegation pleaded with government to consider rehabilitating the main market centres in the region and provide them with sanitary facilities to promote hygiene. Madam Needjan also pleaded with government to help tackle the menace of child trafficking in the country as that offends the human rights of the affected children. 13 Feb. 09
