It has emerged that former President John Dramani Mahama did not represent the African Development Bank as an advocate when he visited Namibia in 2017 as reportedly claimed.
The former president is said to have sent some representatives from AMERI Energy to the African country because they expressed interest in a power agreement like the one he [Mahama] signed with the energy firm when he was in power.
It will be recalled that a Norwegian newspaper reported that, the former Ghanaian president in July 2017 entered into a cooperative arrangement with the sheikh’s company. The former leader John Mahama brought some two men representing the sheikh to Namibia - seeking to clinch possible energy deals with yet another African nation: Namibia.
Mr Mahama who refused to comment on the story when it broke reportedly travelled to the Namibian capital, Windhoek, with employees of the “private office” of Sheikh Ahmed Bin Dalmouk al Maktoum of Dubai, United Arab Emirates.
The said company are the owners of Ameri Group also known as the Africa Middle East Resources Investment Group LLC. One was Ameri Group CEO Maher Al Alili, who is also CEO of the sheikh’s private office. The other was Mustafa Ahmed, who left behind a business card in Namibia embossed with the logo of the sheikh’s office.
Speaking to Rainbow Radios morning show host, Kwame Tutu, Norwegian journalist with VG newspaper, Amon Bike said, the former president went on a trip with Zahoor Umar Farooq, a man wanted for fraud and bank robbery.
He also indicated in the interview that, Mr Mahama is still in contact with Ameri Energy. He however disclosed that, the newspaper couldn’t confirm if money changed hands but what they can confirm is that, Mr Mahama led a delegation to Namibia to initiative an energy agreement.
‘’John Mahama travelled to Namibia to try to settle some energy deal for the sheik’s company in Namibia. So he travelled there with central people of Ameri to try to convince Namibian government to do energy deals with Dubai.
I tried for two months to get comments but Mahama refused to answer any question.’’ He added that Ameri also confirmed that Farooq was still working for Ameri but officially, his name was not Ameri documents.
