A pro-National Democratic Congress (NDC) pressure group based in the Volta Region, the Volta Youth Alliance (VOYA), has threatened to pelt the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, with stones, whenever he visits the region.

According to the convener of the group, Shadrack Fofo Ahiable, the move is purposed to retaliate what its members believe was an “NPP-sponsored stoning” of President John Mahama’s convoy in the Ashanti regional capital, Kumasi.

There were reports that the convoy of President Mahama was stoned on Wednesday, June 29 when he embarked on his Accounting to the People tour of the region.

Police at Ejisu in the region arrested two suspects and launched an investigation into circumstances under which some of them hurled stones and hooted at the President’s convoy.

The arrest of the two persons was confirmed by Ejisu Divisional Police Commander Chief Superintendent Laare Baman, who indicated that investigations were underway.

Even though the president’s car was not involved, the parliamentary aspirant of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC), Gloria Huzu, who was part of the entourage, sustained injuries and had dents on her car.

She reported the matter to the police and proceeded to the hospital for treatment, after which she was discharged.
