Former President John Dramani Mahama has paid a visit to some victims of last Wednesday’s downpour in and around Adabraka, Sunday, June 2, 2019.

Mr. Mahama embarked on the visit together with the Member of Parliament for Korle Klottey, Dr. Zanetor Rawlings, the NDC National Chairman, Mr. Samuel Ofosu Ampofo and some other top NDC officials.

Several parts of the capital city after last Wednesday’s downpour were submerged, leaving many residents around Odawna and Adabraka displaced.

Areas affected were the Kwame Nkrumah Interchange, Kaneshie and Avenor, Adabraka, some parts of West Legon, Dzorwulu among others.

The former president while interacting with victims emphasized the need for swift measures to be taken before the situation gets out of hand.

He said, “The situation may get out of hand if we don’t speed up the drainage efforts.”

He also called on the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), to speed up relief efforts for the people in the affected areas.

“We urge the authorities not to give up as they continue to unblock the drainage so that the water will flow when the rains come…One of the major after-effects of flooding is the possibility of the outbreak of cholera and we don’t want to see cholera in this place.”

Mr. Mahama visited residents living around the Odawna, Adabraka Sahara and West Legon.
