Maintaining NPP's front bench in parliament is the best for the party - Freddie Blay

Former Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Freddie Blay, believes that the current leadership of the NPP in Parliament should not be changed.

He is of the view that the current leadership has garnered the necessary experience after leading the party in Parliament and will perform better as an opposition.

To him, there is no need to change the leadership, as the current team can represent the party adequately and competently.

Speaking to Accra-based GH One TV, Freddie Blay indicated that, “That is my opinion; I cannot speak for everyone. What do you do as an opposition in Parliament, as a loyal opposition to the NDC? The front bench did well as far as I’m concerned, despite the fact that it was a hung parliament. They did not cause a constitutional crisis. We are now in opposition; they’ve gathered enough experience, and to me, we should keep the front bench.”

Speaking on calls to have an Ashanti Member of Parliament lead the NPP in Parliament, due to the numbers they have, he said, “That is not the way we should handle the situation. We put up a candidate from a minority tribe to lead the party based on his competence and ability to unite the country.

"I don’t believe we should say, 'We have numbers in the Ashanti region, and for that reason, we should put up an Ashanti man to lead the party in opposition.' I encourage those who are saying we should maintain the current leadership even in the minority,” he told Lily Mohammed in an interview.
