Ghana's former high commissioner to the United Kingdom (UK) Victor Smith has said it would be catastrophic to make the Director-General of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) COP Maame Tiwaa Yaa Tiwaa Addo Danquah the Inspector General of Police (IGP).
According to him, Maame Yaa Tiwaa Addo Danquah will totally destroy the Police Service if President Nana Addo makes the mistake of appointing her as the new IGP. Giving instances to prove her incompetence, he believes the happenings in the police service after she became the CID boss makes her leadership nothing to write home about.
Several names have popped up for the position of the inspector General of Police (IGP) as the current one COP David Asante Appeatu is set to retire from his post as the IGP of the Ghana Police Service. The names include Director General of Welfare of the Ghana Police Service, COP Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, Director General of the Police Professional Standards Bureau, COP Kofi Boakye and COP Maame Yaa Tiwaa Addo Danquah.
Meanwhile, contrary to the views of Ghanaians, the CID Boss has deemed herself capable and competent enough to hold the position of IGP when appointed. Although the public believe she is incompetent and should have been fired from her current post following her misleading information on the kidnapped Takoradi girls.
Commenting on the issue in an interview with Boamah Darko on the 'Maakye' show on Hot FM, Victor Smith stated emphatically that the gross incompetence of the CID Boss will cause mayhem in Police service.
"With everything I have seen on the woman and the politics that is going on around at the police service, she will destroy the police service. First of all, I don't see her as the best person for the CID job so promoting her to IGP will destroy the whole police service. Tiwaa is not the best person even for her current position... I have seen better CID officers, Patrick Acheampong was one, even the current IGP was one but what this woman is doing, she will be a bit if a problem" he noted.
