The National Union of Ghanaian Students has challenged government and other stakeholders in the agriculture sector to do more in improving the sector and the lives of farmers.
This they believe will make it more attractive for youth to venture into agriculture in the country as the country hopes to be self-sufficient when it comes to food production.
A statement signed by the President of the Union, Richmond Asare Tinkaro on behalf of all Ghanaian students stressed, "Today, We wish to use this day to inform the government and stakeholders at the agricultural sector to renew their commitments in helping to improve the conditions of farmers in the country and the majority of people especially the youth at the Agriculture sector".
The President also encouraged all in the agriculture sector to develop the business aspect of their work to ensure better returns for them no matter the scale of production.
"We wish to encourage each and every one of us who are into farming to take farming as a business regardless of the scale of production, to ensure they reap the full benefits of their toil" the statement continued.
The Union congratulated all farmers for their hard work and contribution to the development of Ghana and urged government to continue its drive of ensuring value addition to the produce in Ghana.
This they believe is the way to go in improving the lot of farmers and farming in the country.

NUGS COMMENDS FARMERS, ENCOURAGE STAKEHOLDERS TO UPLIFT THE CONDITIONS OF FARMERS IN THE COUNTRY
The National Union of Ghana Students wishes to use this field day to say a big thank you to all farmers in Ghana for their hard work in making agriculture sector a buoyant sector that feeds other sectors. The future holds more promises and more potential for Ghana in each passing day because our farmers have positioned Ghana globally, as a country among the world's best producers of cocoa.
The advances you're making in the field of Agriculture and the support from Government could lead to the breakthrough we need, and to maintain Ghana agriculture production in the years to come, adding more value to our produce in the world market.
We wish to use this opportunity to say "Ayekoo" to all the participants in the Agriculture value change. Today, the work you are doing has not only improved the lives of people in Ghana; It has also offered many people the opportunity to be in school, and to make meaningful lives through the decent money you earn and the use of it to support the education of your wards. Ghana students say "Ayekoo".
We wish to encourage each and every one of us who are into farming to take farming as a business regardless of the scale of production, to ensure they reap the full benefits of their toil.
Looking at farmers' contributions to national development, they do not deserve to wallow in poverty. This is to tell our leaders that we need less talk and more action.
Today, We wish to use this day to inform the government and stakeholders at the agricultural sector to renew their commitments in helping to improve the conditions of farmers in the country and the majority of people especially the youth at the Agriculture sector.
NUGS, on behalf of all Ghanaian students, say "AYekoo" to all farmers as we celebrate their toils, blood, contribution and service to Ghana today.
Aluta Continua, Victoria Ascerta!!!
Thank You.
