Malaria top cases in Asamankese hospital

Asamankese (E/R), May 18, GNA- Malaria, home and occupational accidents, upper respiratory tract infection and hypertension were the four top medical cases that were reported at the Asamankese Government Hospital last year.

Dr William Darko, Senior Medical Officer in-charge of the hospital, told the Ghana News Agency at Asamankese that 7,375 malaria cases, 1,577 incidents of home and occupational accidents, 1,382 cases of upper respiratory tract infections and 742 hypertension cases were reported. He said 22,311 patients reported for treatment at the out-patient department during the period under review.

Dr Darko said the hospital, was faced with staff and accommodation problems. He commended the West Akim District Assembly for providing the hospital with two wards, one of which had been converted into an operational theatre. Dr Darko however appealed for beds and medical equipment for the theatre. 18 May 05
