Apaah (Ash), July 7, GNA - A 45-year-old Lecturer at the Asante-Mampong Campus of the University of Education, Winneba (UEW), was the winner in the Mampong constituency New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary primaries held at Apaah, near Jamasi in Ashanti on Tuesday.

The Lecturer, Mr Peter Abum Sarkodie polled 46 out of the 94 votes to beat his closest challenger, Mr Kwaku Ampratwum Sarpong, a Housing Consultant, who had 43 votes.

Mr Daniel Djabeng, an Architect, had three votes while Mr Seth Dwomoh, Chief Legal Advisor of the Ghana Commercial Bank (GCB), had two votes.

Mr Sarkodie thanked the delegates for the honour done him and promised to mobilise the people to ensure victory for the NPP in Election 2004.

The three other contestants congratulated Mr Sarkodie on his victory and promised to rally behind him.

Mr F. F. Anto, Ashanti Regional Chairman of the NPP, appealed to all the contestants and their followers to close their ranks now that a parliamentary candidate had emerged and work as a team to ensure victory.

Mr Mustapha Hamid, National Youth Organiser of NPP, called on supporters to come together as one family so that with unity they could strengthen the Party in the constituency.

He asked the Constituency Executive to consider lifting the suspension imposed on some Executives over an alleged misconduct as a reconciliatory gesture.

Mr Sarkodie was onetime the Constituency Chairman of the NPP but resigned when he decided to contest.
