Mampong overcomes water problem

Mampong (Ash) Feb.7, GNA - Water is now flowing in Asante Mampong and surrounding areas following the complete rehabilitation of the Asante Mampong Water Works, Mr.Peter Abium Sarkodie, Member of Parliament (MP) for the Mampong Constituency, said on Monday. An Italian Engineering Company according to Mr Sarkodie undertook the project, which cost about 900 million cedis and financed by the Government.

Mr Sarkodie, who was speaking to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) on developments taking place in the area, said the people of Mampong had contended with perennial water shortages for a long time. He said educational institutions and the District Hospital were the most affected areas as doctors there complained often about water scarcity, which impeded their work.

The machines at the headwork installed over four decades ago were replaced to ensure the free flow of water from Mampong to other communities like Kofiase, Nsuta, Kwaman and Beposo. The MP said work on the Mampong main streets rehabilitation was progressing steadily and he expressed the hope that the work would be completed by the end of the year.
