Cape Coast, July 14, GNA - A High Court in Cape Coast on Wednesday sentenced one Kofi Arhin, a 50-year-old farmer, to death for murdering his wife.
Arhin, who pleaded not guilty, was found guilty by a seven-member jury.
According to a witness who testified in court the deceased had earlier confessed to Arhin of having extra marital affair.
The prosecution said that both Arhin and wife, the late Ms Maanan Amakye lived at Bewadze and on September 1, 2008, the two went to the farm together with their children.
It said after the day's work Maanan together with the children left the farm leaving Arhin behind but along the way, the convict rushed on her and pushed her to the ground without any provocation, inflicted several cutlass wounds on her in the full glare of their children.
Arhin fled the scene and left the children and his wife who was then bleeding profusely thinking she was dead but they called for help and neighbours took her to the Agona Swedru Municipal Hospital but died the next day.
Arhin was arrested three days later by some youth and handed him over to the police.
