A 40-year-old carpenter who attempted to recruit people at the Kwame Nkrumah Circle in Accra for an armed robbery operation has been arrested.

One foreign pistol and a live ammunition were found on Benjamin Darko, when he was arrested Thursday morning by the Accra Regional Police Command following a tip off.

Police say he has admitted to the offence in his caution statement, and mentioned two others as his accomplices. Investigations have been intensified to arrest the two.

He is being processed for court on charges of unlawful possession of fire arm and soliciting for a criminal. In another development, The police have also arrested a 42-year-old man for stealing a police uniform at the Tesano Police Barracks in Accra and wearing same ostensibly to deceive the public.

William Dapatem was spotted loitering about in the police uniform at the Kwame Nkrumah Circle, and upon interrogation, he confessed to stealing the uniform.

He later took the police to the barracks but was unable to identify the owner of the uniform since according to him, he took them from a drying line. He is to be charged with stealing.

Deputy Accra regional Police Public Relations officer, Inspector Kwabena Danso, cautioned officers of the service to be careful about the way they expose their uniforms so that criminals would not have access to them.
