A 31- year-old farmer who bit the right thumb of his friend for preventing him from beating his wife Martha Awukubea has been sentenced to two years imprisonment in hard labour by a Tarkwa circuit court.
Alex Kwaku Asare pleaded guilty. Prosecuting Police Chief Inspector Florence Tawiah told the court presided over by Mr. Samuel Obeng Diawuo that the complainant Kwaku Abraham is an illegal miner and lived with the convict and his wife in the same house at Bompieso near Huni/Valley.
She said on July 8, a quarrel ensued between the couple while they were having a discussion in their bed room. Inspector Tawiah said Abraham who was then returning from town met Martha at the main gate to the house shouting for help as Asare wanted to beat her.
She said the complainant intervened and attempted to prevent Asare from beating his wife. The convict became annoyed and attacked Abraham and in the process bit part of his stomach, chest and the right thumb off.
Neighbours rescued the complainant and took him to the Bompieso clinic for treatment and later made a report to the police. She said some of the youth in the town arrested Asare and handed him over to the police.
