A man thought to be in his twenties attempted suicide on Sunday at Asankragua Newtown in the Western Region after butchering his pregnant girlfriend to death.

A frenzy Felix Kwabena, a galamsey operator, hacked Abena Nafisatu, who is four months pregnant, to death following a heated argument about the pregnancy.

The details of the argument are not clear but some neighbours say Kwabena denied responsibility for the pregnancy and accused his girlfriend of cheating on him with other guys.

The murder incident happened around 5:40 am Sunday on Sunday. Kwabena allegedly slashed his girlfriend with a machete. Three gashes were found on her back, one her forehead and another on her stomach.

Nafisatu was found lying in a pool of blood after neighbours rushed to her rescued upon hearing frantic shouts for help.

Her body has been deposited at the Enchi Government Hospital.

Kwabena attempted taking his own life by slashing his throat but survived. He is in critical condition at the Asankragua Catholic Hospital.
