A young man believed to be in his early 30s only identified as Saviola reportedly drunk himself to death at Kwadaso, a suburb of the Kumasi Metropolis.

Residents, who are yet to come to terms with his sudden demise, indicate that the deceased prior to his death on Tuesday was mourning an uncle who died days earlier.

He was reported to have gone to a nearby drinking spot where he bought some hard liquor to drown his sorrow but told the bar girl to keep the drink while he attended to an emergency and return later to consume it.

According to a family member who spoke on grounds of strict anonymity, the deceased moments later returned to the drinking spot where he started consuming dozens of the liquor he had earlier bought.

No sooner had he finished the contents of the bottle than he collapsed and was gasping for breath on the floor of the drinking spot but was rushed to Siloam Hospital, a privately owned health facility where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

Police investigators were duly informed and took over investigations into the matter to determine if there was foul play in his death.

Police have since confirmed the incident to ultimate1069.com but said they are currently investigating the party and are due to conduct post mortem on the deceased before releasing the remains to the family for burial.
