Man dies in GH¢30 ‘Akpeteshie’ drinking bet

Thirty-two-year-old Kwame Asirifi aka Kwame Yaayaa did not live to receive a GH¢30 reward he was promised if he could down two bottles of locally distilled gin, ‘Akpeteshie’ at Asuakoso a suburb of Akyem Hemang in the Eastern Region.

According to the Assemblyman of the area, the deceased had been promised a GH¢30 by a colleague if he was able to drink two bottles of the gin which he put himself up for the challenge.

No sooner had he finished the second bottle than he collapsed and was gasping for breath according to the assemblyman for the area, Johnson Appiah.

Onlookers thought he was feigning his collapse until they realized the situation was becoming more serious than they thought prompting the attention of the assemblyman who directed his wife to give him some food.

His situation appeared to be worsening and was rushed to Hawa memorial hospital where he died shortly on admission

Johnson Appiah speaking on Accra Fm said an official complaint was lodged with the police who have commenced investigations into the matter to establish the actual cause of death.

Meanwhile, the whereabouts of the two persons reported to have dared him to drink the bottles of gin in return for the paltry amount is unknown.

But police indicate that they are looking for them to help unravel the mystery behind his death.
