One young man is likely to loathe crossing the Chemunaa Lagoon for a while due to the experience he had while crossing on an improvised bridge on Thursday.

Just as he reached the end of the bridge, the young man lost his step and fell into the waste-filled lagoon.

Eyewitnesses helped the young man who was struggling to get out of the water to his feet but he had to leave without his slippers as they got lost in the lagoon.

Following last Sunday’s rains in Accra, residents of Chorkor and Shiabu in the Ablekuma Municipality have had to make use of a risky improvised bridge on the Chemunaa lagoon which separates the two communities after the floating bridge constructed by Member of Parliament of the area, Ursula Owusu-Ekuful, was washed away.

Speaking to Ghanaweb, some residents expressed delight in the presence of contractors working to restore a bridge on the lagoon.

The residents said they are hopeful the new bridge over the lagoon which is expected to be completed within nine months at a cost of GH¢4 million will eliminate the troubles they face in moving between the two communities.

“I am very happy that there is an excavator there and some container here showing that the government is ready to help us. So I am still begging that the government should help us by completing the construction of the bridge. Even if it is a bridge that a car can pass on we will be very grateful,” a resident said.
