Man found with 40 thumbprint ID cards

THE Yamo- ransa Police have arrested a man who was found in possession of 40 thumbprint ID cards.

The man, Anthony Entsil, from Yamoransa in the Mfantseman District of the Central Region, allegedly collected the 40 ID cards from some unsuspecting voters in the town on the pretext of helping them to acquire photo ID cards.

Entsil, alias Kobina Ebo, was arrested by some members of the public who became suspicious of him. They later handed him over to the police.

He allegedly told the police, upon his arrest, that he was carrying out the job at the request of some leading members of a political party in the Mfantseman West Constituency.

Entsil further alleged that the objective was to disenfranchise the people who are supporters of a particular party.

The Regional Crime Officer, Mr B. K. Agbenyaga, confirmed the arrest in an interview with the Graphic yesterday.

He said on Thursday, some young men in the town, who had been hinted about Entsil’s activities, confronted him and managed to retrieve the ID cards and later handed him over to the police at Cape Coast.

He would, however, not comment further because he said the police are investigating the issue to ascertain the truth or otherwise of the allegations made by Entsil.

Mr Agbenyega urged all parties implicated in the issue to exercise restraint to enable the police to complete investigations into the matter, so that whoever would be found liable would be punished according to law.

He said Entsil would be arraigned before court soon on a charge of defrauding by false pretences.

The Deputy Regional Electoral Officer, Mr J. K. Amihere, also confirmed Entsil’s arrest and said the police have contacted the EC on the issue to facilitate his prosecution in accordance with the relevant law.

He cautioned the public that it is an offence for anybody to take possession of another person’s ID card unless it is done with the written consent of the owner of the card.
