Man in court for stealing sheep

The Kade District Magistrate Court presided over by Mr. Abdul Majid Iliasu has granted bail of GHc1,000 with one surety to a 77-year-old farmer, Abdul Razak, for stealing a sheep valued at GHc200.

Razak, who pleaded guilty to stealing the sheep belonging to Minisu Tahiru, a minor, will appear in court again on June 6.

Giving the facts of the case, Police Inspector James Essel said both the complainant and the accused lived at Number Four Village, a suburb of Akwatia.

On April 18 this year, the complainant detected that his sheep was missing and made an announcement through the villageā€˜s information centre.

The following day, a witness in the case alerted the complainant that it was the accused who stole the sheep.

He said the complainant immediately informed the assemblyman of the area and with the help of others arrested the accused and handed him over to the police.

Inspector Essel said the accused admitted killing the sheep for destroying crops in his garden but when his garden was visited, there was no damage to any of the crops.

He said efforts by the police to locate the carcass of the sheep which he claimed to have thrown into the bush failed.

After investigation, the accused was charged with the offence.
