Man in police grips for murder and robbery at Asankragua

A suspected armed robber, Steven Nkoom is in the grips of the police at Asankragua in the Amenfi West Municipality of the Western Region for murder and robbery.

The suspect is said to have reported and confessed to the police that he had murdered an armed robber.

Speaking to GhanaWeb's Western Regional Correspondent, the Divisional Police Commander, ACP Nana Kumi, said the complainant (Steven Nkoom) came to lodge a complaint about a robbery expedition at Asankran Kwabeng in the Amenfi West Municipality on Sunday, April 26 afternoon.

According to the complainant, he together with some members of the community, rushed to the scene and exchanged gunshots with the robbers resulting in the killing of one of the robbers.

Police investigation further revealed that the complainant was among the robbers who at the mining site on a gold robbery expedition.

The suspect upon noticing the situation at hand rushed to the police and lied that he in collaboration with the town folks killed an armed robber.

However, the Asankragua Divisional Police Commander disclosed that, the deceased (Nicholas Akom) was a worker of the said mining site while the suspect in the police custody was rather the armed robber who placed a gun beside the victim as a cover up.

He said the suspect (Stephen Nkoom, the complaint) has since been detained for further investigations.

The Divisional Police Commander said Nicholas Akom's body has since been deposited at the Enchi Government Hospital morgue for necropsy.
