The Kasoa District Police Crime Officer, Deputy Superintendant of Police (DSP) Samuel Naa Musah, has urged the public to hand over suspected criminals to the Police rather than lynch them to death.
DSP Musah made the call in an interview with the Ghana News Agency, following the lynching to death of a suspected criminal behind the Odupongpkohere Basic School at Kasoa, last Thursday, by some unknown people.
He said the Police received a telephone call last Thursday about of a dead body lying in a gutter on the Nyanyano Road.
He said they rushed to the scene and found the deceased, Patrick Awotwe, alias Russia, aged 35, who was a notorious criminal in Awutu Senya East district.
His legs and hands had been tied with ropes, he said.
DSP Musah noted the deceased had been on Prison remand for a year for dealing in narcotics but was discharged about a month before the incident by the Justice for all Courts.
He said the body had since been deposited at the Police Hospital Mortuary for autopsy, while the police were conducting their investigations.
