Man remanded for possessing Indian hemp

Tarkwa, Sept. 30, GNA – A circuit court at Tarkwa has remanded into police custody, Mohammed Muntari, 47-year-old unemployed, for allegedly possession dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp.

His plea was not taken and he would re-appear before the court on October 5.

Detective Chief Inspector Oscar Amponsah told the court presided over by Mr. Samuel obeng Diawuo that on September 22 at about 1300 hours, a security patrol team spotted Muntari emerging from the bush at Cabin A, a suburb (Railway Station area) of Tarkwa.

The prosecution said when Muntari was arrested and the bush searched, dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp and 10.30 Ghana cedis were found.

Chief Insp Amponsah said investigations by the police revealed that Muntari dealt in narcotic drugs within the Railway Station area.

He said the exhibits would be sent to the crime laboratory at the Police headquarters in Accra for examination.
