Man threatens to kill wife’s friend

Iddi Maruna, a trader and a resident of Nima, has been dragged to court for threatening one Isha Sumaila with death for causing the breakage of his marriage.

The accused person, who was charged with threat of death before an Accra Circuit Court presided over by Mrs Afi Agbaney Kudamor, pleaded not guilty and the case was adjourned to January 28, 2016.

The facts of the case, as presented by prosecuting officer Detective Corporal Richmond Osei, are that the complainant is a businesswoman who has a boutique at Nima in Accra while the accused person is a trader. The prosecutor also said that the witness in the case is Hamdala Nuhu, an ex-wife of the accused person and also a close friend of the complainant.

According to the prosecuting officer, a misunderstanding ensued between the accused person and his wife (the witness in the case), which resulted in the witness vacating the house.

Detective Corporal Osei explained further that on August 14, 2015, the accused person sent a text message to his wife’s phone threatening both his wife and the complainant.

In the said message, the accused person said he would not let the complainant rest in peace for destroying his family and that he the accused would destroy the complainant and go to jail. In the message, the accused person also said he knew the complainant’s house and where she worked so he would be at her door every day to look for his wife and that he would destroy the complainant if he found her with his wife.

Furthermore, Corporal Osei explained that the estranged wife disregarded the text message and did not show the message to the complainant because she thought her husband could not carry out the threat. However, on December 4, 2015, the accused person did carry out his threat when he trailed the witness to the complainant’s shop and stabbed the complainant’s abdominal part twice with a knife.

The complainant, who survived the stab, was later shown the message of threat and she subsequently went to the Criminal Investigations Department Headquarters of the Ghana Police Service and reported the case. The accused person was arrested and after further investigations, he was arraigned on death threat charges.
