Management of PURC meets NEDCo over electricity supply

The Management of the Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC) on Monday met with the Management of the Northern Electricity Distribution Company (NEDCo) to appraise itself with the operations of the company.

The meeting, which was held behind closed doors, centered on quality of service delivery and fixing of tariffs.

Speaking to newsmen before leading the Management of PURC to the meeting, Mr. Stephen Adu, Executive Secretary of PURC, said it would be seeking to know what strategies NEDCo would employ to ensure sustainable supply of power to consumers.

Mr. Adu said this had become necessary given that NEDCo had become a new company and is responsible for procuring and distributing electricity to the northern sector of the country.

In early May, NEDCo became a subsidiary of the Volta River Authority whose mission is to procure electricity and distribute it efficiently, safely and reliably in the northern sector of the country in a commercially viable manner.

The PURC meeting with NEDCo is therefore seen as formalizing relations with the new utility distributor.

Mr. Adu said PURC was concerned with tariff issues and was also hoping to see how it could assist NEDCo to improve its performance.

Mr. John Nuworklo, Managing Director of NEDCo, said the company would do its best to provide quality service to customers.**
