Mr George Obeng, the Chairman of the Mangoase, Pakro and Dego branch of the Ghana Private Roads Transport Union in the Eastern Region has appealed to the Government for the re-gravelling of their 24-kuilometre road.

He said the road stretched from Nsawam through Dego, Pakro to Mangoase all farming communities which produced large quantity of foodstuffs but due to the deplorable nature of the road drivers refused to ply the area making the about 200 farmers to be at a loss as their farm produce went rotten.

Mr Obeng alias “Agatah” who made the appeal in an interview with the Ghana News Agency said: “Drivers who manage to use the road have to charge far more than the stipulated fare to compensate for any damage of their vehicle,” he said.

He said the farmers who could not afford the fares had to carry their wares to the marketing centres.

Mr Obeng expressed the hope that the Government would urgently respond to the appeal to avert any action by the drivers of withdrawing their services, which would worsen the plight of the residents.

“I must say that most of our vehicles, which had developed faults due to the bad nature of the road are grounded at the fitting shops as we could not afford the maintenance fees and cost of spare parts,” he said.
