Aggrieved members of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) in Manhyia South constituency who are secretly working to undermine the integrity of their Member of Parliament Dr. Mathew Opoku Prempeh a.k.a ‘Napo’ have been warned by the Party to desist from the practice.
Some aggrieved Party members in the Constituency have petitioned the National hierarchy of the party to annul the results of the recently held constituency executive elections calling for a re-run.
At a news conference held on Thursday March 8, 2018, at the party’s office in Kumasi, Mr. Akwasi Sarpong, an aggrieved member of the constituency appealed to the party leadership to call the Minister of Education to order since his actions and inactions are destroying the hard-won image of the party in the region.
He claimed Napo is collapsing the party in the constituency with his conduct.
The Second Vice Chairman of the constituency, Mr Richard Owusu had earlier sought an injunction to restrain the constituency from holding the elections on Saturday, February 24, 2018.
He was challenging his disqualification from contesting the chairmanship position after the party announced that all suspended party executives cannot contest again in the elections until their suspension is lifted.
Mr Akwasi Sarpong with support from his supporters in the constituency are therefore calling on the National Council to annul the “supposed elections”, and set a new date for the elections to be held.
But reacting to the Press conference held by the said Anti ‘Napo’ group allegedly sponsored by suspended former Manhyia South constituency Vice Chairman Mr Richard Owusu who is alleged to have defrauded a transport operator in the constituency few days after the NPP took over power from NDC government in 2016 in the name of the party chairman.
Mr Kwaku Asamoah, who is impressed with the conduct of Dr. Mathew Opoku Prempeh, said the minister has brought a lot of development to the constituency which has united the party than ever before.
He added, the education minister has changed the face of education in Ghana shortly after his appointment as education minister of the ruling government.
‘He has been able to introduce the Free Senior High Education Free SHS policy which in effect has increased President Akufo–Addo’s popularity in the country,’’ he said.
Mr. Kwaku Asamoah stated that Napo’s popularity now transcends Manhyia South constituency, stating that ’this is a lawmaker and minister, who is an asset for the state, therefore we will not allow the evil minds in Manhyia south to hurt him’’.
He warned that all NPP electoral area Coordinator and executives at Manhyia South Constituency will at the appropriate time expose and shame the faceless people, who have devised plans to stain his image due to their jealousy.
