The bereaved Manhyia royal family in the Ashanti region has expressed appreciation to Ghanaians for commiserating with them during the one week observation of the late Asantehemaa Nana Afia Kobi Serwaa Ampem II.

The week funeral observation of the late Asantehemaa attracted several dignitaries in Ghana and beyond including former heads of State Jerry John Rawlings, John Agyekum Kufuor and presidential nominee of New Patriotic Party (NPP) Nana Akufo Addo and President John Dramani Mahama.

The palace used the one week observation to showcase the enviable Asante culture through drumming, blowing of traditional horns, and some cultural performances led by Sumankwahene Baffour Kogyawoasu.

Speaking in an exclusive interview with Ultimate FM’s Isaac Justice Bediako after the funeral, grandson of the golden stool Atta Poku he expressed appreciation, ‘I am indeed grateful for the number of people who turned up, …people who work in the private sector defied working hours and came in their numbers which is a Thursday to mourn with us. We are indeed grateful and we are looking forward that they will turn up when we do burial’.

The queen mother who will be buried January 2017 died November 14, 2016.

There has been a ban on drumming, noisemaking and funerals ahead of her burial in the Ashanti region and other regions of Ashanti extraction.
