Ho, Oct. 7, GNA - The Volta Regional Police Command on Thursday reported a marginal decrease in defilement and robbery cases in the third quarter of 2010 as against the second quarter of the same year. Mr David Nenyi Ampah-Bennin, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) in charge of the Region speaking to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in an interview said defilement cases dropped from 38 to 36 while robberies went down from eight to seven.
He also reported a marginal rise in murder and rape cases; murder from six in the second quarter of the year to seven in the third quarter and rape from five to seven.
Mr Ampah-Bennin said the Command was intensifying education and sensitization to further reduce major crimes especially defilement in the region.
"We are creating more awareness and hopefully by the end of the year, defilement cases should reduce.." he stated. Mr Ampah-Bennin urged parents especially mothers to take good care of their daughters to further reduce defilement in the region. He also appealed to traditional authorities, churches and opinion leaders to wage a crusade against defilement.
