Mason jailed 10 years for defiling 13-year old pupil

A 24-year old mason, Enoch Nartey, has been slapped with a 10-year jail-term in hard labour by a Takoradi Circuit Court for defiling and impregnating a 13-year-old class six pupil.

The convict initially pleaded not guilty to the offence but after the trial, the court found him guilty.

Presenting the facts of the case, Inspector Seth Ahelegbe told the court presided over by Mr. Charles Bamford Nimako that the complainant, Stephen Kwofie, is the father of the victim.

Inspector Ahelegbe said both the convict and victim resided in Assakai in the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolis.

The prosecutor said that about six months ago, the convict laced some substances into a beverage and gave it to the victim.

He said after the victim took the drink, she fell dizzy and only woke up and found herself on the convict’s bedroom.

The prosecutor said the victim detected that she had been defiled and confronted the convict who denied the crime.

Inspector Ahelegbe said the victim did not report the case to her parents but six months later, she became pregnant.

When the parents interrogated her, she mentioned Nartey as responsible for the pregnancy.

The parents made a report to the police and a medical form was issued to them for examination which proved that the victim was pregnant.

The police arrested Nartey who denied the offence in his caution statement but upon police investigations, he was found guilty and sentenced accordingly.**
