Akai Nettey, a 48 year old mason, on Monday appeared before an Accra Circuit Court for allegedly defiling an eight-year old girl at the Timber Market in Accra. He has however pleaded not guilty to the charge of defilement.

The court presided over by Mr Aboagye Tandoh has remanded Nettey into Police custody to re-appear on October 23.

Prosecuting Chief Inspector Kofi Atimbire said the complainant was the father of the victim.

Chief Inspector Atimbire said the complainant and the accused person reside in the same house at the Timber market.

On October 3, this year, in the evening, Prosecution said Nettey sent the victim to buy him sachet water and when she returned, he took her into his room.

Prosecution said a four year old girl and a friend to the victim saw the accused and the victim enter the room and informed the victim’s mother.

According to prosecution when the victim’s mother and the victim’s friend went to Nettey’s door they found it locked. They knocked the door several times after calling out the victim’s name but none responded. They also searched the house to no avail.

Prosecution said the victim’s mother believed that the victim was in Nettey’s room so she and the victim’s friend watched with keen eyes on Nettey’s door.

Later the victim emerged from Nettey’s room and when she was confronted, she informed her mother that Nettey lured her into his room, inserted his penis into her vagina and had sex with her.

According to the victim, she could not respond to their call because Nettey had closed her mouth.

When Nettey came out of his room and he was quizzed he denied the act but as soon as the complainant was informed he caused the arrest of Nettey.

The Police at James Town Police station further issued a medical form to victim to seek medical attention.
