Massive cleanup in Ho

Ho, April 12, GNA - Residents of Ho came out in their numbers to undertake a mandatory cleanup of the municipality on Wednesday morning. Gutters and drains were cleared of garbage and sand, streets and alleys swept and weeds cleared at compounds of offices and residential areas.

The military from the 66 Artillery Regiment, Recruits of the Police Training School in Ho, personnel of the Fire Service, Public and Civil Servants and other workers from the informal sector including drivers took part in the five-hour exercise.

A circular from the Regional Coordinating Council (RCC) to all work places charged Heads of Departments to ensure that their staff reported with working tools such as brooms, rakes, dusters, hoes, and cutlasses among others.

The Circular signed for the Regional Coordinating Director by Mr G B K Torsu also directed that rolls were checked and dodgers queried. The GNA saw some workers with ties they had put on before arriving at their work places strapped around their arms weeding. Some of the sanitation problems facing the otherwise scenic municipality are indiscriminate dumping of refuse at nooks and corners, dropping of shopping bags anywhere and defecating in bushes and thickets around offices and residential areas.

Mr Mawutor Goh, Ho Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) at the People's Assembly in Ho on Tuesday, April 4, expressed shock at the type of debris found in river pathways in the municipality, including unserviceable household wares and called for a change of attitude among residents.
