Mayor of Washington DC to visit Ghana

Accra, April 28, GNA - The Mayor of Washington DC, Anthony A. Williams and his wife, Diane would visit Ghana from May 7 to May 10, 2006 to sign a Sister City Agreement between Washington and Accra.

Mr Stanley Nii Adjiri Blankson, Mayor of Accra, who announced this during an interaction with the media in Accra, said: "The sister city relations between Accra and Washington is going to be an eye opener." Mr Blankson said Mayor Williams would meet Shiek Ibrahim Cudjoe Quaye, Greater Accra Regional Minister and later call on President John Agyekum Kufuor at the Castle, Osu.

He said Mr Williams and his entourage would interact with representatives of the Ministry of Finance; Ministry Trade; Ministry of Tourism; Ministry of Private Sector Development and ministry of Local Government and Rural Development.

Mr Williams would also visit Kakum Forest; the Slave Castle in Elmina Born on July 28, 1951 in Los Angeles, California, Mr Williams holds a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Yale College and served in the US Air Force.

He also holds Doctorate Degree in Law and Masters Degree in Public Policy from Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University. Mayor Williams began serving as the Fourth Mayor of the District of Colombia on January 4, 1999, 25 years after the city was granted Home Rule in 1974.

In 2004, Mayor Williams was elected President of the Washington DC-based National Leagues of Cities, the oldest and largest national organisation representing government throughout the United States.
