Mechanic institutes awards for drivers

Techiman (B/A), April 13, GNA - Mr Gilbert Okwae of "Dr Real Guy Vulcanising Shop" at Techiman in the Brong Ahafo Region, has instituted special awards for 140 drivers from the Techiman Municipality to boost their morale and encourage them to lead decent and morally upright lives.

The various Municipal branches of the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) and the Progressive Transport Owners Association (PROTOA) would select the deserving drivers.

Mr Okwae told the GNA that the award winners would be drivers, who would not be counted among the alcoholics or those, who take hard drugs and show respect to passengers and pay the necessary attention to them. He commended some drivers in the Municipality, who have been handing over properties of passengers mistakenly left in their vehicles to the authorities of the transport unions for onward transmission to their owners and said such God- fearing-drivers would be awarded. Mr Okwae said the prizes would include specially designed T-shirts and neckties.

He reminded drivers that it was an offence for them to drive under the influence of alcohol or any drug and stressed the need for them to look decent in appearance.
