The New Patriotic Party (NPP) Parliamentary Candidate for Kpone Katamanso Constituency in the Greater Accra Region has blamed the media over the politicization of the coronavirus (Covid-19) fight.
Hopeson Adorye said the media gave attention to former President John Mahama and his Covid-19 team and that was the genesis of the politicization of the fight against the virus.
In an address on Sunday, May 10, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo said those criticizing the government’s fight against the virus are doing it for political survival.
Reacting to the issue on Onua TV’s Maakye hosted by Bright Kwasi Asempa, Mr. Adorye said the beginning of the politicization of the Covid-19 was when the NDC set up a team.
“The media should have condemned that,” he explained in local language Twi on Monday.
Mr. Adorye said the media “disappointed us. We are in crisis. We don’t go making petty politics”.
The NPP parliamentary candidate said the media should help Ghanaians “because a whole chapter of the Constitution has been dedicated to you so you have a responsibility”.
The National Youth Organizer of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), George Opare Addo, who was also on the show, expressed disappointment in President Akufo-Addo over the comment that critics are doing so for political survival.
“I was disappointed in the President like any other Ghanaian. The government was not proactive on the lockdown. What were we waiting for when we started recording cases?”
