Medical team from US offer free eye treatment

Abetifi, July 15, GNA - A six-member Medical Team from Foothills Presbytery of the Presbyterian Church in South Colorina in the United State of America (USA), have arrived at Abetifi to offer a two-week free eye treatment of various optical diseases in the Kwahu area. The team will also present sight and reading glasses to all those who would need them after examination to solve their sight problems. The team is made up of two Orthmologists, two optical nurses, a medical administrator and a medical graduate.

According to a spokesman of the team, Dr Robert Wong, they would, among their duties, undertake surgeries for the treatment of Cataract, Glaucoma, Inflammations and other eye defects to restore sight to the patients.

He said the team decided to assist the poor and needy people in the area to solve their sight problems as part of collaboration between the Foothills Presbytery and the Kwahu Presbytery of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana.

Dr Wong, said over 700 people have visited the Abetifi Health Centre with various eye diseases since they arrived in the country four days ago and advised them to take all medical advice seriously and wear their sight and reading glasses regularly to correct the defects for them to gain their sight.

The Chairperson of the Kwahu Presbytery of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, Rev. Emmanuel Osafo Boateng, said it was part of the church's social responsibility to solve the health needs of the people apart from their spiritual duties to improve the living standard of the people. He advised Christians in the area to emulate the voluntary assistance of the medical team and contribute to the poor and the needy in the society.
