Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah, a private legal practitioner and member of the governing New Patriotic Party in the Manhyia South Constituency, emerged victorious in the party’s parliamentary primary held on Sunday, July 14, 2024.

Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah will replace the outgoing Member of Parliament, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, as the constituency’s parliamentary candidate.

According to myjoyonline.com, Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah garnered 376 votes, defeating Nana Owusu Prempeh, brother of the outgoing MP, who secured 141 votes.

Among the other contestants, Akwasi Coker Gyambibi received 2 votes, while James Owusu managed to secure 7 votes.

Following the selection of Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, the Member of Parliament for Manhyia South, as the running mate to the New Patriotic Party flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the NPP in the constituency held a primary to elect a new candidate for the upcoming by-election.

Although five individuals picked up nomination forms, only four candidates participated in the primary.

Given that Manhyia South is a stronghold of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), it is anticipated that the winner of the primary will likely secure victory in the main election to become the Member of Parliament.
