Members of two area councils acquire leadership skills

Nkoranza (B/A) Nov. 23, GNA - The Nkoranza District Assembly, with support from the Community-Based Rural Development Project, has held a three-day capacity building workshop for Ayerede and Busunya Area Council members to help equip them with leadership skills.

The participants were expected to lead the people to initiate development programmes that would help improve their living conditions. The Project, sponsored by the World Bank, would provide the communities in the two areas with social amenities as well as help the people to improve upon their agricultural activities.

Mr. Samson Madana, Nkoranza District Planning Officer and Coordinator of the Project, said the area councils had been empowered to prepare development plans for the communities, taking into consideration the priority needs of the people.

Mr. Madana called on community leaders and members of the councils to encourage the people to pay their taxes in order to generate enough revenue for the completion of more development projects in the communities.

Dr. Kofi Afakye, Nkoranza district director of agriculture services, said under the agricultural component of the Project, infrastructure for social and human development would be provided in the communities to boost productivity.

He said farmers would also be given the necessary education and technical advice to adopt modern farming techniques and practices to help improve their economic activities.

Miss Grace Adusei, Local Government Inspector at the Nkoranza District Assembly urged the area council members to support revenue collectors in their operations.
